What’s the Best Time of Day to Apply for a General Labor Job?

If you’re looking for work and submitting lots of applications, it’s easy to get frustrated when you don’t hear back from employers. This is especially true if you’ve gone everything right, including creating a resume that is tailored to each job you apply for.

While there are a lot of things you can do to make sure you polish up your resume and make the best impression as an applicant, there may also be one other simple change you can make to your application process that takes almost no effort but that can make a big difference. That change? Applying for a job at the correct time.

According to Time Money, research has shown that time when you apply for a job really matters. Researchers looked at approximately 1,600 applicants sent on behalf of many different job seekers to assess the impact of timing on the chances of landing an interview. Here’s what they found:

  • Apply early to maximize the chances of being hired

If you submit an application between the hours of 6:00 AM and 10:00 AM, you have a 13 percent chances of being called in for an interview. This is the greatest chance at any point throughout the day.

  • Your chances drop 10% for every 30 minutes after 10:00 AM

This means if you want until later in the day to submit your application, your chances of getting called for an interview will drop dramatically. People tend to get busy with other tasks and don’t give your application the attention it deserves if you’ve waited.  However, there is one exception – your chances bump up slightly during the brief window of time after 12:30 lunch.

  • The worst time to apply for a job is after 7:30 PM

If you submit your application after 7:30, you have only a three percent chance of getting an interview.
